The Noonu Lhohi Council has formally appealed to the Government to bring Goan'bilivaadhoo under the jurisdiction of Lhohi Island.
The request was made during a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, held as part of his visit to Lhohi. The meeting included discussions with members of the Lhohi Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions.
The meeting took place at Lhohi School.
The Council emphasised that including Goanbilivaadhoo within Lhohi’s administrative boundary would enhance the economic activity and better serve the local community’s needs.
The Council also highlighted the urgent need to make the harbour channel navigable and urged the Government to expedite the harbour development project. They specifically called for the addition of a boat docking area adjacent to the harbour to better serve local fishermen and transport needs.
Further requests from the Council included the construction of multipurpose halls and resource rooms for the local school, the development and conservation of designated beach areas for public and tourist use, and the introduction of a loan scheme for islands currently without housing programmes
Reaffirming a prior promise from the President, the Council also called for the swift completion of the harbour wall.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured that the Government will carefully consider the concerns raised and strive to implement suitable solutions. He also provided updates on ongoing development projects on the island, joined by Cabinet Ministers and heads of State-Owned Enterprises accompanying him on the visit.
