The Government has launched ID card printing and distribution services in Laamu Atoll.
The Department of National Registration (DNR) confirmed that with this new service, residents of all islands in Laamu Atoll can now obtain ID cards without leaving their home islands. The department stated that the service will significantly improve efficiency and reduce processing times.
This service is currently available on 27 islands, with plans to expand it to all atolls before the end of the year. The initiative aligns with a broader Government policy to provide ID card services, integral to numerous basic services, throughout the Maldives.
Simultaneously, preparations are under way to introduce the service in countries with a significant Maldivian population, including Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom.
The decentralisation of ID card and passport services is a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration, aimed at bringing essential services closer to citizens.
