The Government has commissioned the expansion of Maafaru Health Centre, fulfilling a request by island residents to increase its capacity and improve healthcare services.
Under the new agreement, the centre’s bed capacity will be increased from three to 21. Fenaka Corporation was officially tasked with implementing the project during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Noonu Maafaru.
Although Fenaka had initially been commissioned on 20 July to construct a four-bed ward, the scope of the project was expanded following the President’s announcement during his meeting with local residents.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, while Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director Mohamed Najah signed on behalf of the company.
According to the Ministry of Health, the expansion project will also include the development of a nurses' station, a meeting hall, a public health unit, and a portico.
