Chinese President sends Independence Day greetings to Maldives

President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China has extended congratulations to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian people on the occasion of the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day.

In a message conveyed on behalf of the Chinese Government and people, President Xi expressed sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of the Maldives.

President Xi highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, noting that China and the Maldives have enjoyed a history of friendly exchanges. He remarked that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, bilateral relations have continued to develop in a stable and healthy manner, serving as a model of mutual respect, support, and benefit between countries of different sizes.

Referring to President Dr Muizzu’s state visit to China in January 2024, President Xi described the meeting as cordial and productive, with both sides reaching a broad consensus. He stated that he attaches great importance to advancing China-Maldives relations and expressed readiness to work closely with President Dr Muizzu to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and to jointly build a China-Maldives community with a shared future.

Marking the occasion, Wang Yi, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, also sent a congratulatory message to Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel.
