Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim stated that the Maldives’ independence was the result of years of sacrifice, careful planning and diplomatic efforts, rather than something that happened by chance.

Speaking at this year’s Independence Day ceremony, the Minister reflected on the country’s historical struggle for sovereignty, highlighting the role of former Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir in negotiating independence from British rule. He noted that such milestones were made possible by deliberate efforts and long-term vision.

Highlighting the importance of unity, the Minister stressed that preserving independence requires continued national cohesion and cooperation. He noted that the Maldivian people have defended the country’s freedom since the formation of the state, and that same spirit of unity remains essential today.

The Minister also echoed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s first address, highlighting his emphasis on national unity and structural development as key to ensuring lasting prosperity and stability.
