Maldives, ADFD reaffirm development partnership

The Maldives and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral development cooperation.

The high-level meeting between President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and ADFD Director General Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi on 27 July 2025 during Al Suwaidi’s official visit to the Maldives for the country’s 60th Independence Day celebrations and the inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport.

During the talks, both parties discussed avenues for strengthening collaboration, with a focus on identifying future development projects that could be jointly undertaken. The discussions centred on strategic sectors where ADFD support could further the Maldives’ national infrastructure and economic development objectives.

President Dr Muizzu extended his gratitude to the ADFD for its longstanding support, including its financial contributions to major national projects such as the VIA terminal. Al Suwaidi, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the successful implementation of ongoing initiatives and conveyed the Fund’s interest in continued engagement. Both sides expressing optimism about the future of Maldives–UAE development ties and a mutual interest in expanding cooperation across priority areas.
