A Condolence Book will be opened at the Ministry of Tourism and Environment from 31 July to 7 August 2025 in honour of veteran statesman and recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (O.D.R.I.), Hassan Sobir.

The book will be available for signing from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on all working days during this period.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision, noting that the venue was chosen in recognition of the late Hassan Sobir’s long-standing service at the Ministry of Tourism.

As the Maldives’ longest-serving Minister of Tourism, he guided the industry through a crucial phase of growth, establishing institutional foundations and leading the internationally recognised “Sunny Side of Life” branding campaign.

Sobir dedicated over 38 years to public service, leaving a lasting impact in key sectors, including tourism, foreign relations, fisheries, and agriculture.
