Heavy rain and strong winds caused significant disruption across the Maldives on 29 July, including the collapse of an archway structure installed along the road leading to Velana International Airport.

The Maldives Meteorological Service had issued a white alert from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong gusts across the country. Wind speeds ranged from 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 40–45 mph. Sea conditions were rough, with wave heights between 4 and 7 feet.

The archway collapsed under the force of the wind on the airport road, prompting authorities to swiftly begin removal efforts to ensure safety and restore access.

In the Malé region, including Hulhumalé, torrential rain and high winds caused localised flooding and damage. Several tree branches broke off, and in Phase 2 of Hulhumalé, dozens of parked motorbikes were toppled by the gusts.

The Maldives continues to experience unstable weather conditions due to the southwest monsoon. The MET Office has urged the public, especially those at sea, to exercise caution as adverse weather is expected to persist.
