The man arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing incident in Laamu Maavah on 28 July has been remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

Mohamed Ibrahim, a 29-year-old from Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaranfaru, was arrested on suspicion of murdering Moosa Ibrahim, 29, who was fatally stabbed in the neck near the Maavah volleyball court on Monday morning. Moosa was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the local health centre for treatment.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that Mohamed Ibrahim was brought before the court and ordered to remain in custody pending trial. Authorities also stated that he has a history of drug-related offences.

A resident of the island told local media that the altercation is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over drug sales.

Following the incident, Moosa’s body was initially sent from Maavah to Fonadhoo in Laamu Atoll. On Tuesday, police reported that the body had been transferred to Malé for further procedures. However, no details were provided regarding the nature of those procedures.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
