The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert for 15 atolls, warning of strong winds and rough seas expected across much of the country this morning.

The alert is in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and covers the region from Haa Alifu Atoll in the north to Thaa Atoll in the central-southern Maldives.

According to the Met Office, winds are expected to range between 19 and 24 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 mph. Sea conditions are forecast to be rough across the affected areas.

The atolls under alert include Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu and Thaa.

Residents and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions. Small vessel operators are particularly urged to exercise caution while at sea.

Inter-atoll transport services may be disrupted, and travellers are advised to check with operators before making journeys.
