The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has announced adjustments to the allocation process for the 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, citing irregularities in the previous administration’s lottery draw.

In a statement released Monday, the ministry revealed that three-bedroom flats will be awarded to applicants who scored 76 points or higher in the first round of evaluations. However, concerns have emerged, as it was revealed that some individuals meeting this criterion were excluded from the draw conducted by the former Government on November 16, 2023

The ministry noted that while some applicants with 76 points were excluded, others with 75 points had received flats through the lottery system. In response, authorities have now decided to conduct a separate draw exclusively for those who scored 76 points, ensuring fair and transparent allocation. Applicants with 75 points will be considered in subsequent rounds.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had previously halted the allocation process toward the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term. The interim Government later conducted a review and, in February, published a revised list of recipients.

Amid public backlash over the number of disqualifications, Minister of Housing Dr Abdulla Muthalib assured that the Government would uphold the original list of eligible recipients.

Currently, the ministry is working alongside Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) to finalise agreements with flat recipients. However, the ministry temporarily suspended the signing of some agreements on Sunday due to inconsistencies identified in the recipient list submitted to FDC.

The Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair and orderly distribution process for the Gedhoruveriyaa flats.
