Baa Dhonfan has begun a significant development project involving land reclamation and improvements to the beach area used by residents and visitors for swimming. The contract has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

A formal ceremony was held to hand over the works to the company. The event was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who is currently visiting all inhabited islands of Baa Atoll. During his visit to Dhonfan this evening, he also met with members of the community.

The agreement for the project was signed by Minister of Construction Dr Abdulla Muththalib, with MTCC’s Managing Director, Ahmed Saudhee, signing on behalf of the company.

President Dr Muizzu noted that Dhonfan faces severe limitations in available land space. He explained that 13 hectares would be reclaimed under the project, which, once completed, would significantly ease the shortage. He emphasised the importance of commencing work within the year and completing it as soon as possible.
