The groundbreaking ceremony for the new police station in Dharavandhoo was held on Thursday morning as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing tour of inhabited islands in Baa atoll.
President Dr Muizzu attended the event, where Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan officially inaugurated the project. He was joined by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah, and the President of the Dharavandhoo Island Council.
The facility, which is being developed by Fenaka Corporation, is expected to strengthen policing capacity on the island.
While the police station was the final major project initiated for Dharavandhoo during this trip, the trip also included the inauguration of the island’s sewerage system and announcements on upgrading health services, developing new sports and recreation facilities, improving roads and the harbour, and enhancing tourism initiatives such as the upgrade of Dharavandhoo Airport.
