Malé City Council has announced the inauguration of a new facility for stray cats in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Mayor Adam Azim confirmed that construction of the facility is complete, and it will officially open this evening, with the first stray cats expected to be relocated there. He noted that within the next six months, the facility aims to accommodate all stray cats in Malé.
Malé's stray cat population, currently estimated at around 3,000, has contributed to various challenges for residents, particularly health concerns that increase during the rainy season. Mayor Azim also highlighted that the council’s immediate priority includes repairing potholes on city roads to enhance safety and accessibility for residents.
