The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the first phase of the integrated logistics terminal project at Thilafushi, led by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

Under this phase, MTCC constructed a 60-metre revetment, a 15-metre quay wall, and carried out land-levelling works. The terminal is planned to accommodate up to 2,000 containers once fully developed.

The project is part of MPL’s plan to gradually relocate operations from Malé Commercial Harbour to Thilafushi. Once completed, the relocation is expected to ease congestion at Malé and Hulhumalé ports, improve cargo clearance, and address long-standing space constraints.

MPL estimates the relocation will be completed within the next two years, after which the Hulhumalé port will be converted into a transshipment hub, with North Harbour and T-Jetty facilities also moved to Thilafushi.
