Over 1,000 offences reported to police in August

Maldives Police Service recorded 1,001 cases nationwide in August 2025, with theft accounting for the largest share at 303 incidents, according to the latest statistics.

Traffic-related cases were the second most frequent offence, with 236 incidents recorded. Drug offences followed, with 187 cases reported to the authorities.

In addition, the police documented:

  • 90 cases of loss of property
  • 45 cases of physical altercations
  • 44 incidents of property damage
  • 23 robberies
  • 22 cases of domestic violence
  • 21 fraud offences
  • 19 sexual offences
  • 11 cases of forgery and counterfeiting

The police stated that measures to reduce crime have been reinforced in Greater Male' Area. The number of officers deployed on the streets of the city has increased, and operational changes have been implemented to ensure the visibility of a police officer every five minutes.
