The Maldives and China have signed eleven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including capacity building, economic development, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
The agreements were formalised at a ceremony held at the Wangfujing Hilton Hotel in Beijing on 2 September, in the presence of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The MoUs are expected to broaden cooperation between the Maldives and China, building on existing ties. They focus on practical areas such as development and sustainability, with the aim of supporting long-term growth in both countries.
President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, during which he is also attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
