President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took part in the commemoration marking the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People in the Second World War, held on Wednesday morning at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

The President is currently on an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, where he is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025.

The commemoration, presided over by President Xi Jinping together with senior Chinese leadership, was attended by a number of world leaders visiting Beijing for SCO Summit 2025. 

Following the ceremony, President Xi hosted a reception at the Great Hall of the People in honour of the dignitaries in attendance.

The anniversary is observed in China as a tribute to the sacrifices made during the Second World War and as a commemoration of the victory that safeguarded the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
