The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have signed an agreement to develop a multi-sport complex in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaran.

A special ceremony was held in Nolhivaran for the signing, with Minister Abdulla Rafiu signing on behalf of the Sports Ministry and MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed signing on behalf of the company.

Following the agreement, Minister Rafiu, MACL MD Shareef, Nolhivaran MP Mohamed Rasheed and Council Vice-President Mohamed Hussain took part in the groundbreaking ceremony.

During his recent visit to Nolhivaran, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the new fitness and recreation centre would be developed as an indoor sports complex, while the island’s football ground would be upgraded to meet FIFA standards.

The Nolhivaran Sports Complex project is part of a Government initiative to establish fitness and recreation centres across all inhabited islands by the end of next year. To accelerate this effort, State-owned companies have been tasked with carrying out the projects, with MACL awarded the contract to construct centres in 63 islands.
