A pickup truck overturned on the Sinamalé Bridge highway on Friday afternoon after a tyre burst caused the vehicle to hit the highway divider, according to the Maldives Police Service.

The incident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. Police said the impact caused the pickup to overturn and collide with a car travelling nearby. While the car sustained minor damage, no injuries were reported from either vehicle.

The pickup, however, was badly damaged in the crash. Police confirmed that the vehicle had been travelling at a speed above the prescribed limit, and that action has been taken against the driver.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Police added that the accident underscores the importance of adhering to speed regulations to prevent similar occurrences.
