Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Social Dialogue Conference 2025 this morning, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening protections for workers across the labour market.

He stated that the objective was to create a secure environment for all employees while addressing the challenges encountered in the workplace.

The conference, which includes the participation of the International Labor Organization (ILO), is the first to be convened under Chapter 10 of the Industrial Relations Act. It brings together delegates to consider central issues in industrial relations, with particular emphasis on the rights and welfare of workers.

Building on this focus, Minister Dr Haidar outlined the Administration’s priorities, which include resolving workplace disputes through peaceful means, expanding opportunities for young people, and equipping them with the skills needed for employment. He stressed that workplace safety must remain at the heart of efforts to strengthen and enhance the labour market.

He further urged the public to contribute to the development and advancement of their respective institutions or agencies, as well as to foster stronger social relationships. He also emphasised the importance of prioritising efforts to fulfil national responsibilities, including promoting business growth and ensuring adequate security for the general public.

The conference discussed important issues concerning the protection of workers’ rights, including the creation of safer working environments.
