The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported that 88 per cent of work on the Kaafu Gulhi reclamation and coastal protection project has now been completed on 8 September.

As part of the project, MTCC has reclaimed 10.15 hectares of land, effectively doubling the island’s size. Current efforts are focused on coastal protection, with 88 per cent of groyne installation completed and geo-bag revetment works progressing at 48 per cent.

The MVR 83 million project, awarded to MTCC in March 2023, is expected to provide significant socio-economic benefits to Gulhi by increasing available land for housing, infrastructure, and community development.
