President hails Maldives’ South Asian Super Cup win

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated the Maldives national football team on winning the South Asian Super Cup 2025, praising the players’ performance and expressing pride in their achievement.
The Maldives secured the title with a 4–1 aggregate win over Sri Lanka. The first leg, played on 7 September, ended in a decisive 3–0 victory for the Maldives. In the second leg at Colombo’s Race Course Stadium, the match concluded in a 1–1 draw, with forward Naiz Hassan giving the Maldives the lead in the 67th minute before Sri Lanka equalised later in the game.
In a message shared on social media, President Dr Muizzu said he was proud of the national team’s efforts and their success on the regional stage. He also conveyed his congratulations directly to the team in a phone call on Sunday following the 1st leg. The win highlights a significant achievement for Maldivian football, reaffirming the national team’s strength in regional competitions.
