The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed that major works under the Boduthakurufaanu Magu North Side Road Development Project are progressing steadily, with reclamation now 90 per cent complete.
In its latest update, MTCC reported that sheet piling along a 132-metre stretch has been finalised, while both C-channel and anchor block installation works have been fully completed. The company also confirmed that precast panels required for the new quay wall have already been delivered to the project site.
The MVR 144.5 million development project, spanning 830 metres from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Local Market, is being carried out in three phases. It includes the construction of a 737-metre coastal wall, expansion of the road into four lanes, new pedestrian areas, and a stormwater drainage system to address flooding during heavy rainfall.
MTCC said the project will enhance accessibility in Malé City, reduce traffic congestion, and create safer, more resilient infrastructure for road users. The first phase of the project is currently under way with the entire project to be completed within 455 days.
