President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government is working to establish a tourist resort and permanent seaplane services in Kaafu Kaashidhoo.

Speaking to residents of the island during his visit, the President said that although Kaashidhoo is strategically located, it remains relatively isolated, limiting tourism and travel opportunities for its residents. He noted that developing the island’s tourism potential and improving connectivity are key priorities for his Administration.

The President said Kaashidhoo will be linked to the nationwide Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network to ensure easier sea travel for residents. In addition, the Government plans to introduce scheduled seaplane operations to the island.

He added that the Government is also working to develop a tourist resort in Kaashidhoo, which would create new business and employment opportunities for local residents. The President noted that while the Kaashidhoo lagoon was previously opened for bidding without success, the tender process has now been revised to encourage more interest.

Highlighting the economic and social benefits, President Dr Muizzu said these initiatives will allow residents to find job opportunities closer to home and boost local development.

The President also spoke about improving public services on the island, noting that health centre extension is vital to ensure adequate medical facilities in Kaashidhoo’s isolated setting.

He further announced that harbour development for Kaashidhoo will be included in the 2026 State budget, describing it as one of the most important infrastructure projects planned for the island.
