President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that, following the successful allocation of housing for Thulusdhoo residents, the Government plans to pursue population consolidation projects from other islands in consultation with the community.

Speaking to the people of Thulusdhoo, the final stop of his nationwide tour, President Dr Muizzu said the island has served as a successful model of population consolidation, noting that the community has always been welcoming.

Highlighting key upcoming developments, the President said that once housing for current residents is secured, additional housing will be developed on reclaimed land to support population consolidation efforts. He added that road construction works in Thulusdhoo will begin in January, describing the project as a top priority that will benefit both residents and visitors.

The President also spoke about several other projects planned for the island, including the construction of a Fitness and Recreation Centre, where practical works began on Tuesday. He announced that a state-of-the-art football ground will also be built under the 2026 State budget, with work scheduled to commence next year.

Addressing residents’ request for a harbour on the southern side of the island, President Dr Muizzu confirmed that the project will be carried out next year. He also announced that a new Bank of Maldives (BML) branch will open in Thulusdhoo next year, along with the installation of a dollar ATM.

In the education and health sectors, the President said the Government is working to expand opportunities for higher secondary education and to strengthen healthcare services on the island. He assured that all development projects in Thulusdhoo will be carried out in line with the community’s needs and expectations.
