Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has commended President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for setting a new standard of leadership by visiting every inhabited island in the Maldives within the first year and eleven months of his Administration.

In a post on his official X account, Minister Saeed highlighted that this marks only the second time in the nation’s 900-years of written history that a head of state has visited all inhabited islands, the last instance occurring 42 years ago.

President Dr Muizzu’s visits, which covered 187 islands including all cities, have been described as a reflection of his deep commitment to understanding the needs of communities across the country. The Minister noted that such dedication demonstrates a rare level of engagement between a national leader and the people.

Throughout his visits, the President met with island councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), and residents, including senior citizens and schoolchildren. His engagements focused on listening to local concerns, respecting the elderly, and ensuring the well-being of children and students.

The visits also paved the way for the initiation of development projects across all islands, many of which have already been completed. According to the Minister, President Dr Muizzu aims to complete a second round of visits to all islands before the end of his current term, underscoring his commitment to direct engagement with communities.

Minister Saeed further observed that the President’s efforts have strengthened public confidence, as people witness a leader who listens to their voices, understands their challenges first-hand, and ensures that essential services and development projects are delivered across the nation.
