President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has presented commemorative shields to the families of the martyrs of 3 November 1988, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who lost their lives defending the Maldives during the terrorist attack.

The presentation was held today during the official Victory Day ceremony at the Social Centre in Malé, recognising the bravery and service of the soldiers and civilians who were martyred in the attack.

A total of nineteen Maldivians were martyred on 3 November 1988, eight soldiers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and eleven civilians.

Victory Day is observed annually on 3 November to commemorate the Maldives’ victory over the 1988 coup attempt and to honour the courage of those who defended the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
