Deputy Commissioner of Customs Mahmood Riyaz has been reinstated to his post following a recommendation from the Parliament’s National Security Services Committee (241 Committee).

The President’s Office confirmed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reinstated Riyaz based on the committee’s advice after a further review of the cases that led to his dismissal.

The Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, said the 241 Committee’s investigation found no evidence linking Riyaz to the case.

Based on the committee’s recommendation, the President has approved Riyaz’s reinstatement.

Riyaz and another Deputy Commissioner of Customs were previously dismissed following the committee’s initial inquiry into the two cases. However, the latest findings concluded that Riyaz was not involved in the alleged misconduct, leading to the decision to reinstate him.
