Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, has announced significant developments at Dharumavantha Hospital, which has now been upgraded to a fully functional tertiary-level facility.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, Abdul Razzaq detailed the challenges faced when he assumed leadership and outlined the hospital's remarkable transformation under his stewardship.

He added that Dharumavantha Hospital was at a standstill due to maintenance neglect, with two out of three cooling systems in a dilapidated condition, leaving the 25-storey facility barely functional.

Abdul Razzaq highlighted that when he began, three floors of Dharumavantha Hospital were underutilised. With significant efforts, these floors were revamped, and pivotal services were established. Among the achievements:

  • A cath lab was made operational on the 11th floor.
  • Emergency services, labour suites, and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were developed.
  • The facility was fully equipped to provide tertiary-level healthcare.

These improvements mean Dharumavantha Hospital is now a tertiary hospital in the truest sense, fully capable of delivering advanced medical services, he said.

Abdul Razzaq also credited the progress to the current Administration's healthcare vision. Significant steps have been taken across hospitals in the Malé region, including the process of progressing Hulhumalé Hospital to tertiary status and various upgrades at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Villimalé Hospital.

Notable Achievements in the Malé Region Include:

  • April 17: A short-stay unit was established at IGMH to ease the burden on the Emergency Room. To date, it has served 6,938 patients.
  • January 3: A C-ambulance service was launched at Villimalé Hospital, completing 142 emergency trips so far.
  • March: Laparoscopic surgery services resumed at Hulhumalé Hospital, with 102 surgeries performed since.
  • July 20: A new theatre complex with four operating theatres was established at IGMH, where 1,471 surgeries have been carried out.
  • July 27: A medical air plant was set up at IGMH to support essential hospital operations.
  • July 20: A new Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), critical for sterilising medical equipment, was introduced at IGMH.
  • October 26: Dental services began at Villimalé Hospital, providing treatment to 45 patients so far.
  • November 15: Dharumavantha Hospital was upgraded to tertiary-level status, alongside the establishment of a fertility centre. The centre has served 59 patients, with an additional 22 applications pending.
  • November 15: Emergency services for children commenced at Dharumavantha Hospital, with 1,396 children treated to date.
  • November 16: Hulhumalé Hospital was officially elevated to a tertiary-level facility.

Abdul Razzaq highlighted the administration's commitment to fulfilling President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto promises. Under the Aasandha programme, 1,487 individuals have received comprehensive medical check-ups to date.
