The Ambassador of the Maldives to Belgium, Geela Ali, has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening cooperation among member states of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
She made the remarks while addressing the 120th Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers, held in Brussels, Belgium, from 12 to 14 December 2025.
During the session, Ambassador Geela commended the progress achieved by the organisation under the leadership of Secretary-General Moussa Salef-Batraki, particularly in the areas of restructuring the Secretariat, enhancing trade cooperation, and promoting sustainable development. She further emphasised the Maldives Government’s commitment to deepening engagement with OACPS member states and supporting inclusive and sustainable development across the bloc.
The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States was established in 1975 under the Georgetown Agreement. The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022 and has since actively collaborated with fellow member states and the European Union to address shared global challenges.
