Constable Imsha Abdul Latheef of Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyoari has made history by becoming the first female police officer in the Maldives to be awarded Best All-Round Student in a police basic training programme.
Imsha achieved the milestone after excelling in the 41st Police Initial Training Course (PITC), which trained a total of 185 new recruits. She officially joined the Maldives Police Service on 1 December 2023 and completed her A-Level studies in 2019 at Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi School.
The award was presented during a graduation ceremony held on Monday evening, attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, who jointly presented the honour.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan described Imsha’s achievement as a historic moment for police training in the Maldives, noting that it reflects the growing role of women in law enforcement. He also expressed appreciation to her family and home island for the support shown throughout her journey.
The ceremony further spotlighted female excellence, with four other women officers receiving top honours. Together, the five awardees, Imsha Abdul Latheef, Maryam Laasha Adam, Aiminath Samra, Maryam Lu’lu’a Mohamed, and Alya Ahmed, represent a significant stride towards gender inclusivity within the force.
This collective achievement underscores the Maldives Police Service’s commitment to fostering diversity and excellence, signifying a new chapter in the empowerment of women in uniform.
