The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has unveiled its fifth Strategic Plan, setting out a comprehensive roadmap for the next five years with a strong emphasis on tackling corruption, particularly within the political sphere.

The Commission noted that the plan serves as a key framework to ensure the more effective use of institutional resources by targeting high-risk areas of corruption. It aims to deliver tangible and visible improvements for the public within a defined timeframe through strengthened anti-corruption efforts.

The Strategic Plan is structured around five key priority areas: governance and institutional development; enhancing operational efficiency to achieve measurable outcomes; strengthening the national integrity system; improving governance in public procurement and State-owned enterprises; and preventing political corruption through targeted interventions.

As part of the plan, the ACC intends to build a more capable workforce and foster a supportive working environment for its employees. The Commission also plans to adopt more evidence-based approaches, refining its procedures to strengthen both investigative and prosecutorial processes.

In addition, the plan prioritises expanding public awareness initiatives across all segments of society, alongside scaling up training programmes through the Maldives Anti-Corruption Academy. Efforts will also focus on identifying high-risk areas of corruption within State-owned enterprises, reforming related systems, and strengthening oversight of procurement processes.

A central pillar of the plan is addressing political corruption. Measures outlined include strengthening mechanisms to ensure free and fair elections, enhancing transparency in political appointments, and reinforcing public trust in State institutions.
