A 68-year-old man was rescued from the sea on Tuesday after the boat he was travelling in capsized while en route between two islands in Shaviyani Atoll.

The Maldives Police Service said it received a report of the incident at approximately 11:50 a.m., involving a small vessel travelling from Funadhoo to Feevah.

Police officers immediately responded to the scene, deploying a speedboat to the area. The man was located in the sea near Feevah and safely rescued by officers.

According to police, the individual, who is originally from Noomaraa, was travelling alone at the time of the incident. He was transferred to the police speedboat and later taken to Feevah. Authorities confirmed that he was unharmed and in stable condition.

Preliminary information indicates that the boat began taking on water from the stern before eventually capsizing.

Police have advised seafarers travelling in the area to exercise caution, as some items from the vessel are reportedly drifting in the surrounding waters.
