President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Maldives 2.0 initiative is intended to bring fundamental changes to the country’s governance system, as the Government moves ahead with long-term planning and institutional reforms.
The President made the remarks while speaking at a consultative meeting with residents of Hulhumalé Phase I, held at Rehendhi School Hall, as part of an ongoing series of public engagements aimed at gathering public feedback and addressing community concerns. He said the Maldives 2.0 framework is closely linked to a National Development Plan currently under preparation, alongside proposed legislation that would provide the plan with stronger legal standing.
During the meeting, the President outlined the Government’s development agenda, including a 20-year plan focused on achieving sustained economic growth and meeting national development targets by 2040. He said the Administration is also taking steps to stabilise public finances, noting that efforts are underway to meet both domestic and foreign debt obligations without resorting to monetary expansion.
The President also referred to progress in the housing sector, stating that housing projects are being implemented at a faster pace compared to previous administrations, with agreements already signed for developments in several islands. He added that preparations are ongoing for housing projects in the Malé region, which are expected to commence by the end of the month.
Residents attending the meeting raised a range of issues related to living conditions and public services in Hulhumalé Phase I. The President assured participants that the Government would review the concerns raised and take appropriate measures to address them through relevant authorities.
