Marine conservation group 'Oceanholic Maldives' has issued a warning after spotting a potentially lethal cone snail in the Rasfannu area in Malé City.

The organisation reports that these creatures, which are native to Maldivian waters, can range from merely causing discomfort to being fatally venomous, depending on their species and size. The specific specimen spotted has been assessed as one of the more dangerous varieties.

As cone snails typically surface during dusk hours, Oceanholic Maldives has urged the public to exercise extra caution during evening swimming sessions. The organisation particularly emphasises the importance of protective footwear whilst swimming or walking in the lagoon, with special attention to keeping children safe.

This warning comes as part of the organisation's efforts to ensure public safety in Maldivian waters.
