Manta Air has received a D1 Rating from the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, allowing the airline to carry out specialised Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on aircraft structures and components, placing it among a small number of operators in the Maldives with this capability.

The approval authorises Manta Air’s Maintenance Organisation to conduct advanced inspections that identify hidden cracks, corrosion and internal structural defects without damaging aircraft parts. This enables the airline to strengthen oversight of its own fleet while also offering certified NDT services to other airlines and aviation organisations in the country.

Under the D1 rating, Manta Air is approved to perform three advanced testing methods: Liquid Penetrant Inspection, Eddy Current Testing and Ultrasonic Testing. Together, these techniques allow for the detection of surface, sub-surface and deep internal defects across both metallic and composite aircraft structures.

The services will be delivered through Manta Air’s dedicated NDT workshop at its MRO facility in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, which features a controlled environment, engineered lighting and specialised equipment designed to ensure accuracy and consistency.

The certification comes as part of a wider strategy to expand the airline’s engineering capabilities. Recent developments include upgrades to structural repair facilities, enhanced livery and paint services, improved inspection workflows, strengthened corrosion prevention programmes and expanded battery servicing operations.

Manta Air has announced plans for further enhancements to its technical services in 2026, reinforcing its role as a growing aviation engineering provider while supporting improved safety, efficiency and reduced aircraft downtime across the Maldivian aviation sector.
