Applications have opened for the ‘Rahafaiy’ exhibition, which invites senior citizens to showcase authentic Maldivian food traditions and flavours, with the aim of educating younger generations and preserving the country’s culinary heritage.
The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage. According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to revive traditional Maldivian cuisine while encouraging greater interaction between senior citizens and youth.
One of the key objectives of the exhibition is to familiarise young people with the origins of Maldivian dishes and the skills involved in traditional food preparation. The programme also aims to strengthen intergenerational bonds and encourage senior citizens to actively participate in community and cultural activities.
Applications to participate are open until 21 January, 2026. Interested senior citizens can register by visiting the Israhvehinge Naadhee in Malé or Hulhumalé, or by calling 3027586 or 3027587. Applicants are required to present their ID card during registration.
Organisers said participants must also submit details of the food items they plan to showcase at the exhibition, including the number of items to be prepared.
The ‘Rahafaiy’ exhibition is an important step towards preserving Maldivian food culture and ensuring that traditional knowledge and skills are passed on to future generations.
