The Maldives Immigration has arrested three foreigners in Hulhumalé during an operation targeting individuals residing and working illegally in the Maldives.

Officials said the task force raided several cafes and takeaways in the first phase of the operation yesterday, leading to the arrests. The detainees have been taken into immigration custody.

Authorities confirmed that a major nationwide crackdown is underway, with all relevant government agencies working together to identify foreigners engaged in illegal business activities and employment. Those found violating Maldivian laws are being deported immediately, with the government also moving to shut down businesses operated by illegal foreigners.

According to official figures, 9,188 foreigners have been deported over the past two years, while data has already been collected on more than 190,000 foreigners currently in the country. The Immigration Department said the ongoing operations are being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and will continue until all violations are addressed.
