The future of Gaafaru is poised for significant transformation, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announcing several key development initiates for the island. During his visit to K. Gaafaru today, the President outlined several infrastructure projects set to commence under next year's budget.

At the heart of the development agenda is an ambitious harbour expansion project. According to the President, the Administration has directed the Council and Ministry to draft an enhanced design that will serve both medium and long-term community needs, with the project to be fast-tracked through the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).

The island's essential services will see substantial upgrades, with both the Health Centre improvements and school expansion projects scheduled to commence next year under new PSIP initiatives. While the promised doubling of the ice plant's capacity remains a firm commitment, the President explained this would follow the establishment of similar facilities in currently underserved communities.

The development extends beyond basic infrastructure, encompassing sports facilities and waste management systems, reflecting a holistic approach to the island's development.

While acknowledging slower-than-desired progress in the past year, the President's announcement signals a renewed focus on Gaafaru's development priorities.
