Skilled artisan Aminath Gumeyria has presented a hand-woven Dhivehi Feyli to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The presentation took place during a meeting held today at the President’s Office on 1 February. During the meeting, Gumeyria shared her personal journey into traditional weaving, explaining how her interest in the craft started and how she went on to master techniques practised by Maldivian ancestors. She also briefed the President on her work to revive Dhivehi Feyli weaving, a heritage craft that has seen a gradual decline in recent decades.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu commended Gumeyria for her dedication to preserving Maldivian heritage and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting individuals and initiatives aimed at promoting traditional crafts. He encouraged her to continue her efforts to revitalise the practice, noting the cultural importance of safeguarding traditional knowledge and skills for future generations.

The Feyli presented was crafted in the style of traditional Maldivian attire commonly worn around 1932, reflecting historical designs and methods used during that period.
