Mariyam Insha Faisal has been appointed as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC) after receiving unanimous approval from the 58 members of Parliament present during the vote.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formalised her appointment following a comprehensive parliamentary review process.
The Independent Institutions Committee of the Parliament conducted an assessment of Insha’s qualifications and suitability for the position. Maafushi MP Hussain Riza Adam, presenting the committee’s findings, noted that a three-member panel had been convened in accordance with parliamentary regulations to evaluate her credentials.
The committee verified information about Insha through consultations with several institutions, including the Department of Judicial Administration, the Elections Commission, the police service, correctional services, Maldives Immigration, and the Customs Service. MP Riza emphasised that no complaints were filed against Insha during the public feedback period.
Insha further demonstrated her qualifications during an interview conducted by the committee, securing a score of 88%. Based on these findings, the committee recommended her appointment, a proposal that was unanimously approved by Parliament.
Previously serving as a senior investigator at the NIC, Insha was nominated to replace Ahmed Jihad, whose term had recently ended.
