President addresses development priorities in Malé Atoll Council meeting

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Malé Atoll Council this evening to discuss critical regional development initiatives and infrastructure needs, with healthcare enhancement and coastal erosion emerging as key priorities.
During the meeting at the Malé Atoll Huraa Council Secretariat, council members highlighted the pressing need to strengthen healthcare facilities across the islands, particularly given the region's significant role in the local tourism sector. The Council also emphasised the urgent requirement for intervention to address coastal erosion affecting several islands.
The discussions encompassed strategies to enhance both the tourism industry and reef fishing sector throughout the atoll, while the Council sought Presidential approval for the Hajj Corporation's proposed Maafushi project.
Government Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on ongoing development projects in the region.
Council members expressed satisfaction with the current level of communication with Government ministers, commending their collaborative approach with the public. In response to the concerns raised, President Dr Muizzu assured the Council that their matters would receive due consideration.
The meeting represents part of the Administration's ongoing engagement with local governance bodies to address regional development challenges and opportunities within the Malé Atoll region.
