President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for robust anti-corruption measures in the Maldives while urging citizens to actively resist corrupt practices.

On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, the President took to social media X to share his message: citizens must reject proposals that enable corruption and avoid activities that could foster misconduct. His post stressed that fighting corruption requires concrete actions rather than just verbal commitments.

The announcement coincides with a significant development in anti-corruption efforts, as the Government signed an Exchange of Notes with Japan for a project aimed at strengthening anti-corruption initiatives. The project will focus on enhancing mobility and operational capacity in anti-corruption operations.

During the signing ceremony, Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel highlighted the project's importance in establishing transparent governance and implementing stringent anti-corruption measures in the Maldives.

International Anti-Corruption Day is observed annually on December 9.
