The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has extended a warm welcome to its team that won a gold medal at the 9th International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition 2026, held in Pakistan.

The team returned to the Maldives on Saturday morning after competing in the prestigious military competition. The Maldivian team secured the gold medal after competing against 24 teams from 16 countries.

Upon arrival at Velana International Airport, the team was received by Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas and Commander of Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Rasheed. The team was later welcomed at the MNDF Headquarters by Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, senior officers and a large number of service personnel.

Congratulating the team on their achievement, the Defence Minister stated that the success demonstrated the courage, determination, skill and discipline of Maldivian soldiers. He noted that even without access to the most advanced equipment, MNDF personnel possess the resilience and capability to compete with the best forces in the world.

The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts under the direct guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to strengthen the capacity of the armed forces, including enhancing military resources and developing infrastructure across defence establishments.

Following the MNDF’s victory, President Dr Muizzu congratulated the team, describing the achievement as a source of pride for the nation and for the Maldivian military.

The competition was held from 5 to 7 February at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Pakistan. The PATS competition is regarded as a high-level military exercise aimed at enhancing combat readiness and operational capabilities. It involves testing tactical skills and the ability of teams to operate effectively under various challenging conditions.
