Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed has said that the company is working to complete development projects awarded to them by the end of this year.

Speaking to State media, MD Matheen said a number of MWSC projects had experienced delays in previous years, adding that the company’s current priority is to ensure that projects are not stalled and are progressed without further disruption.

MD Matheen said multiple contractors are involved in implementing MWSC projects across the islands, noting that staffing shortages and logistical challenges have affected timelines. He said efforts are being made to address these constraints to keep projects on track.

Despite the challenges, MD Matheen said project implementation is continuing and the company is aiming to complete all projects contracted to MWSC within the year.

In his Presidential Address 2026, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that since he assumed office, water supply systems have been established in 42 islands, while sewerage systems have been implemented in 39 islands. He said plans are in place to establish water systems in an additional 51 islands and sewerage systems in 40 islands within the next 18 months.
