Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has said that the Government has completed the distribution of canned tuna cases as part of the Roadha Hadhiyaa programme in all but six islands across the Maldives.

Providing an update on the programme, the ministry said 53,895 cases of canned tuna have been distributed in the Greater Malé area as of 14 February. The ministry said there are 65,230 registered domestic electricity meters in the Malé area, with more than 11,700 households yet to collect their tuna cases.

The distribution of canned tuna cases in the Malé area began on 24 January. While the main distribution phase concluded on the night of 11 February, households that have not yet collected their canned tuna cases can continue to do so from the MIFCO centre in Malé until the first day of Ramadan. Canned tuna cases are available for collection from the MIFCO outlet in Malé every evening from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The programme was announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who pledged that every household would receive a case of canned tuna during the holy month of Ramadan. The Government has continued the practice of providing Roadha Hadhiyaa to households since assuming office, with a similar distribution carried out last year.
