The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has begun circulating newly printed MVR 20 and MVR 100 banknotes from the “Ran Dhiha Faheh” series.
In a statement, the MMA stated that the new batch of notes was issued to meet growing demand for cash within the economy and to replace worn and damaged notes returned to the authority.
The MVR 100 notes were received by the MMA on the 2nd of this month, while the MVR 20 notes were received on the 15th. The newly issued notes bear the signature of Governor Ahmed Munawar and are dated 31 July 2025 (6 Safar 1447). The authority noted that issuing new notes when stocks run low is a routine part of currency management.
A significant design change has been introduced to the newly printed MVR 20 note. The updated version features the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol printed on both sides of the note.
MMA added that, similar to the MVR 100 note most recently issued on 7 July 2024, the new MVR 100 print also includes the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol.
The authority confirmed that all existing MVR 20 and MVR 100 notes currently in circulation remain valid and can continue to be used as legal tender.
