Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has assured that there will be no disruptions in the supply of fuel, gas, and essential food items to the Maldives.
Via his official X account, Minister Saeed noted that rising tensions in the Middle East have led to increased global oil prices and posed challenges to fuel supply chains. He said the Government is taking swift and coordinated action, under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, to minimise the impact of these developments on the Maldives and its people.
He stated that the State Trading Organization (STO) is maintaining sufficient fuel stocks in line with national demand, while also working closely with international suppliers through established nomination arrangements to ensure continued supply.
The Minister further noted that two new fuel shipments have already arrived in the Maldives this week, with additional shipments scheduled in accordance with pre-arranged supply timelines.
Global price increases for fuel and gas, driven by the ongoing conflict, have significantly impacted international markets. The Government is implementing a range of measures to reduce the impact on the domestic economy.
