President Dr Muizzu extends Pakistan Day greetings, reaffirms strong bilateral ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended formal felicitations to the government and people of Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan Day, conveying his greetings in separate messages to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

In his message to President Zardari, President Dr Muizzu expressed confidence that the longstanding bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Pakistan will continue to grow stronger, guided by shared regional aspirations and enhanced cooperation both bilaterally and within international forums.

In his letter to Prime Minister Sharif, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the significance the Maldives places on its close and enduring ties with Pakistan, noting that diplomatic relations between the two countries date back to 1966. He emphasised that the relationship is rooted in shared values, including a common faith and a continued commitment to unity within the Muslim Ummah.

The President also highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections, describing the goodwill between the citizens of both nations as a key pillar supporting mutual development and cooperation.

President Dr Muizzu also extended his best wishes for the good health and well-being of Pakistan’s leadership, as well as continued peace, progress, and prosperity for its people.

Pakistan Day, observed annually on 23 March, is a national holiday that marks the adoption of the country’s first constitution and its transition from a dominion to a republic.
